Abstract: Ultralab is a learning technology research centre at Anglia Polytechnic University. "To research, apply and disseminate the benefits of new technologies, seeking to develop an empowering, creative and delightful learning environment that knows no boundaries." ULTRALAB's name is derived from 'Learning Technology Research at Anglia' (hence the LTRA part of the name* ). ULTRALAB is now home to a sizeable team, has an international reputation for its work and philosophy. We house a UK National Archive of Educational Computing, and produce innovative and challenging educational software (distributed both on CD ROM, and free via the internet) as a way to explore and disseminate our ideas. ULTRALAB is supported by Anglia Polytechnic University as a research centre and is currently located to the east of London, in East Anglia, on the Chelmsford Central Campus. The ULTRALAB team is an eclectic mix drawing on a variety of backgrounds including computer science, education, music, fine art, graphics, finance, economics, and engineering.

Abstract: Education-line is developing a live collection of documents on the Internet. It has been established so that researchers, practitioners and policy makers from the worlds of education and training can: present their work at early stages, for immediate review by colleagues world-wide ; store important documents for archiving publish specialised or small scale texts to the widest possible audience; find reports and papers - in full - relevant to their own interests, using the sophisticated search tools of the British Education Index; contribute to debates about the work through on-line commentary; see the latest reports, as they appear, on a daily basis

Abstract: The International Centre for Distance Learning at the UK Open University continues to offer free online access to its distance education database. The database currently contains information on: over 31,000 distance-taught courses and programmes, most of them offered by institutions in countries of the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, Australasia, the Caribbean, Europe and North America More than 900 distance teaching institutions worldwide Over 8,500 entries describing books, journal articles, research reports, conference papers,and many other documents relating to open and distance learning around the world.

Abstract: The National Foundation for Educational Research is an independent body undertaking research and development projects in all sectors of the public education system. It aims to gather,analyse and disseminate research based information with a view to improving education and training. The National Foundation for Educational Research was founded in 1946 and is Britain's leading educational earch institution. It is an independent body undertaking research and development projects on issues of current interest in all sectors of the public education system. Its membership includes all the local authorities in England and Wales, the main teachers' associations, and a large number of other major organisations with educational interests. The present Director is Dr Seamus Hegarty.
